A Day in the Life of a Washing Machine at Changing Lives Together

Ever wondered what happens to your donated washing machine after we collect it? Let us take you behind the scenes on one of our washing machines, to show you the journey from your doorstep to a family in need.
The collection
Our day starts with a call from a customer in Winsford who has a washing machine they no longer need. They've sent us photos via WhatsApp, and we've scheduled a free collection. Our team arrives at their home, carefully loads the machine into our van, and thanks them for their donation.
This particular machine came from a house upgrade, but we receive washing machines in many ways - donations from customers like you, contributions from local companies, and sometimes through bulky waste collections when we spot machines in good condition.

The testing process
Once back at our warehouse, the real work begins. Every washing machine goes straight onto our test bay. We need to know exactly what we're working with - does it power on? Do all the cycles work? Is there any damage?
This machine powers up perfectly but has a minor issue with the drain pump. No problem - our team gets to work.

The repair
Our skilled technicians diagnose the fault. It might be a simple fix like replacing a worn seal, or something more involved like fitting a new pump. We're committed to repairing and reusing as many machines as possible to give them a second life rather than letting them end up in landfill.

Testing again
After repairs, it's back on test. We run multiple cycles to ensure everything works as it should. Only when we're completely satisfied does a machine move to the next stage.
Where to next?
This washing machine has two possible futures, both making a real difference:
On the shop floor - It could be sold at an affordable price in our shop, helping families access essential appliances they might not otherwise afford.
Emergency help scheme - Or, like this particular machine, it goes directly to a family in urgent need. Perhaps a single parent who's just moved into a new home with their children, or someone fleeing a difficult situation who needs to start fresh. For them, this washing machine isn't just an appliance - it's dignity, independence, and one less thing to worry about.

Why your donation matters
Within days the washing machine is collected, repaired, tested and with a new family. That's the power of a donation.
